new idea

As I was publishing my last post, an idea occured to me. Now, I don't know that I can afford this idea... Granted, I really don't have THAT many people who visit this blog, but who knows - if people get really into it, I could be in trouble. But I want to try it anyway.

I'm going to make a Blog Mix I think. So here's the plan... Post one of your favorite songs or just a song you'd like to share with me because you think I might like it, or you just really really love it. Here's a couple rules though:

1.) Keep the vulgarity to a minimum if possible.
2.) It has to be accessible through iTunes.
I don't download "free" MP3s, and I don't have the money to buy a full album for one song.
3.) You must attach your name to the post with the song
4.) Please choose just ONE song!

Then, after a while I will collect all the songs and compile a new list. It'll be cool, I think - really random! But it'll be a collection of a bunch of different tastes and styles across the board. Like, I might get some metal or hard core music from a Canadian Bomber-lovin' boy, some killer beats from an Illinois graphic designer, a hip hop suggestion from a Cub-lovin' Eminem fan, something mellow and meaningful from a Family Feud contestant, or something I hadn't even thought of from a Texan translator! We'll see...

Be creative! Think of a cool song to add to the Blog Mix.
Let the fun begin.

Ok... Additional rule:

Rule #4 - ONLY ONE SONG!

Chris, I love the fact that you wanted to share so many with me, however, you gotta pick one my friend! I don't have the money to download the playlist if everyone gives me 8 songs! :)

Picking one is near impossible, but I'll give it a shot:

"In Red" - Lovedrug (from "Pretend you're alive") which is a current favorite at the moment.

If you're open to a second it's hard to beat the emotion of:

"Track 3" - Sigur Ros (from the "( )" album) - This one is amazingly deep and yet so simple.

Great idea! And I think I heard that Jimmy Eat World is putting out another album sometime soon...unconfirmed though.

*sigh* You're VERY difficult, Toryo....

I like them all. Why don't YOU just choose one? Waterdeep is more mellow and stuff. Tea Party is like... hard but not "metal." Those Alice Cooper songs have some tremendous lyrics. And the Michael Buble song is extra jazzy.

My favorite song seems to change weekly, so I'll just suggest what's hitting the spot for me at the moment. And that is ... "Someday" by Nichole Nordeman. With all the changes in my life this past year, this song is encouraging -- for me at least! This was a fun idea :)

I'm stuck on Coldplay and Death Cab lately for obvious reasons. I'd have to say "Politik" or "Transatlanticism." Course, "The Scientist" is a great song too...

I'd say pick the first if you want songs of broad substance. Pick the second if you want songs that are truly beautiful. Pick the last if you want songs of more personal substance.

Superman (It's Not Easy) - New Album Version

Its song #13 on MTV hand picked Vol 2.

Not trying to be nosey or anything but why not download "free" music? I am not talking via p2p programs but from itunes samples or for the artists directly, downloading from there I have been introduced to so many new songs and bands I would have never heard otherwise.

Tory Jane said...

Sorry, maybe I should have clarified "free" music. I was talking about p2p programs - such as old school Napster, and the other ones like Kazaa and whatnot...Basically music that artists did not release to be downloaded "for free".

don't worry about asking, either. It was a good question. I love how iTunes has free downloads and I too have learned a great deal about new artists.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone... Keep 'em coming!

Listening to Otis Redding at Home During Christmas by Okkervil River.

My name is Scott Kunze and I approve this message.

(And I know what one song means)

Odis,
Can I recommed the audio version of "The Message"? I hear the person who reads it is pretty cool...

(smiling slyly.... love ya Kay-do!)

Tory Jane said...

Sorry, I was kind of joking, but also kind of serious.

My brother is the one who reads for audio version of "The Message" New Testament. His name is Kelly (or Kay-Do as he is oft referred to).
